Mrs Casey Schwing Web Pages

Welcome back, Second Graders! We will jump feet first into our school year on August 29, and I will be seeing all of our class parents August 30. A lot of information will be coming home then, but here are some things you might want to know before school starts:

Specials - Monday: World Language and PE; Tuesday: Art and Library; Wednesday: Music; Thursday: Computers

Agenda Planners - please check agenda planners for nightly homework. Homework will also be posted on this webpage. Using the planners is a skill we work on all year. :-)

Homework - plan on approximately 30 minutes of homework each night, Monday - Thursday. Second grade will not receive homework on Fridays or over vacation (with the exception of monthly book reports). Math homework is assigned regularly but not every night, depending on our unit lessons.

At Home Reading -  Second graders should be reading for at least 20 minutes a day. It does not matter if they read independently, with an adult, are read to, or read to another child...20 minutes of reading a day will dramatically increase vocabulary and has been shown to improve academic achievement.

Email - I can be reached via email but generally only check email once a day. Please allow at 24 hours for email responses. If you need to reach me right away, please call the office.

CoGats - Second graders will take the cognitive assessment in October. This test is given throughout the Archdiocese of Hartford Catholic Schools. It is not a test that can be studied for, but students generally do better with a good night school and a good breakfast. Results will be sent home, usually in the first report card.
